Garey Fuqua*
Head of Municipal Securities

Mr. Fuqua helps oversee and manage the firm’s municipal securities business, leads the municipal direct origination platform, and is a portfolio manager of the municipals strategy. Prior to joining Tortoise Credit Strategies, Mr. Fuqua worked for Palmer Square Capital Management as managing director and the chief investment officer of high yield municipal strategies. Before Palmer Square, he worked at Spring Mountain Capital where he led the firm’s high yield and distressed municipal strategies group. Prior to that, he founded Ofelia Capital, an investment boutique firm focusing on high yield municipal debt. Before that, he was a co-portfolio manager of high yield municipal bonds at Aroya Capital and director with Cohen & Company, where he co-managed the first-ever municipal CDO portfolio. Earlier in his career, Mr. Fuqua also worked for Fitch Ratings, Goldman Sachs, PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Brown & Wood, Sumitomo and Sallie Mae.

Mr. Fuqua is a recognized industry authority with significant experience in analyzing, structuring and managing financings as well as turnaround and distressed situations for a wide range of non-investment grade issuers of municipal securities.

Mr. Fuqua earned a Master of Public Administration in state and local government financial analysis and management from the Maxwell School at Syracuse University and a Bachelor of Science in finance from New York University Stern School of Business.
